His first task will be to appoint a new manager after former boss Kevin Watson stepped down at the end of the season, following the club’s relegation after just one season in Isthmian Premier.

Callander replaces former Bay chairman Stuart Fitchie, who resigned from his position at the end of March.

Callander is the current manager of Herne Bay’s under-13s team in the Kent Youth League and will continue in that role as they step up to under-14s next season.

He initially broke into the Bay first team aged 15 under Jason Lillis and moved to Chelsea’s academy before spells at Ebbsfleet, Dagenham and Gillingham.
