Herne Bay boss Sam Denly frustrated by late postponement as trip to South Park is called off for second time

Herne Bay’s players got on their bikes – literally – this week.

The Winch’s Field squad had an hour’s spinning session at the town’s Herons Leisure Centre on Tuesday night, after another blank weekend with their trip to South Park, one of only two Ryman League Division 1 South postponements on Saturday.

The Reigate club’s pitch has proved a problem in their first season in the competition, with Bay suffering a second call-off, having been due there last month. The game has now been re-arranged for Tuesday, March 10.

Boss Sam Denly said: “It was frustrating because we are going well and want to keep playing.

“We only got the call at around 10.45 (on Saturday morning) which was too late to find anywhere to train.

“Local referee Mike Marsh is the manager at Herons and is a good contact to have. The boys had a good workout there, and we’ll go again tonight (Thursday).”

Bay travel to Surrey again this weekend with a trip to play-off contenders Merstham.
They are third, having lost only once in their last 13 league games, a 3-1 home defeat against Folkestone Invicta last month.

Harry Brown is ruled out as he starts a two-game ban, while brother Ben is still sidelined by an ankle injury.
