No arrests as police continue investigation into destruction of barber shop in Hythe High Street

A barber has resumed snipping hair after the front of his shop was destroyed more than six weeks ago.

Berkan Yakit was due to start trading in Hythe High Street in January, but was left devastated after his windows were smashed in and frames were knocked down.

So far there have been no arrests and police continue to investigate the incident. Meanwhile, Mr Yakit has started cutting hair once again in the building and it is understood the shopfront will be fully repaired within the next week.

It is believed that a car collided with the front of the property just after midnight on Monday, January 22, before the driver left the scene.

Mr Yakit, who lives in Ashford, estimated that the damage would set him back about £10,000.

The new shop, which is called BestMan Barbers, is set to be Mr Yakit’s first business and he is hopeful he can still make it a success.

Anyone with information that could assist officers with their enquiries, including CCTV footage, should contact Kent Police on 01843 222289 quoting 46/11962/24.
