Delays feared as bridge is moved

MOTORISTS enjoying a Sunday drive across Shepway may experience some delays this week when a new bridge is transported to Hythe. The slow heavy load will be moved on a large low lorry on the M20 from Dover, where it was built, to Ashford, then back down the A2070 to New Romney and on to Hythe.

The bridge will then be lifted into position on Monday to form part of the Royal Military Canal improvements. Hold ups are also expected in Hythe while the work is carried out. Burmarsh Road will be closed for the day.

There was some confusion when the board pinned up to warn people about the closure included a mobile phone number that was in fact a private phone. It should read 07980 585336.
