Fire and damage at vandal-hit public toilet in Hythe

Disturbing photos show the aftermath of a vandal-hit public toilet after a fire broke out.

Unscrupulous yobs targeted the loos in Stade Street, Hythe, prompting the council to speak out against the “appalling” behaviour.

Pictures show remnants of a fire and debris strewn over the floor while Folkestone and Hythe District Council moved to condemn the mindless vandalism.

A spokesperson said: “We are appalled at the recent vandalism to the Hythe toilets.

“This criminal behaviour inconveniences the public, creates additional work for the council and ultimately costs the taxpayer money.

“The matter has been reported to the police.”

It is not the first incident of anti-social behaviour at the Stade Street facilities with others reported over the past few months.

Council staff were able to attend and reopen them in a clean state soon after the incident.

This follows similar incidents across the county where a historic town has been left without public toilets.

Residents have been encouraged by Folkestone and Hythe District Council to report any future issues to the council.
