Retired housekeeper dies in cliff fall

THE body of a woman found dead at the cliffs in Capel-le-Ferne, near Folkestone, has been identified as 82-year-old pensioner Nina Harmer.

Mrs Harmer, who lived alone in Hillside Street, Hythe, had been reported missing after failing to return home from a walk.

The retired housekeeper was known to frequently travel to Capel by bus. She would get off at the Valiant Sailor and walk along the cliff tops to the Cliff Top Café before getting a bus home.

Her body was found half way down Abbot's Cliff by the Coastguard helicopter following a search involving the police, coastguard and lifeboat. It is thought she fell. Her body was taken to the William Harvey Hospital at Ashford where she was pronounced dead.

An inquest into Mrs Harmer's death has been opened at Ashford. It was adjourned for further inquiries to take place.
