Hythe Town sign full-back Aziz Lyoubi

Hythe Town have signed Aziz Lyoubi and may also add fellow full-back Chris Arthur to their squad.

Both players started on Monday night as the Cannons began pre-season with a 1-0 defeat at home to Dover.

Manager Sam Denly was encouraged by his side's defensive performance against National League opposition.

He said: "George Kamurasi in goal was outstanding, made some fantastic saves.

"I played Mitch Chapman and Ben Gorham at centre-half, Chris Arthur on the left left and Az at right-back so it was a brand new back-five.

"To play that way against a good side and look that comfortable without working on too much was very pleasing to see.

"Az has put pen to paper which is great. He's a left-back and was at Knights Academy for a year before he did his cruciate ligament.

"He looks like a very good player, he's been working hard in pre-season and we've got a lot of options at full-back now.

"Chris did well and he's there again on Saturday so we'll get a few games under him and see if we can get something sorted."

Denly hasn't ruled out further arrivals but Hythe's squad now looks almost complete.

He said: "If the season was starting on Saturday, I'd be happy with the squad I've got. We're strong all over.

"I've got competition at full-back, three or four centre-halves fighting for shirts, we've got competition through the middle and out wide, we're strong.

"I wouldn't mind another striker but Ryan Palmer can play there. In Junior Aikhionbare, Palms and Zak Ansah, I've got three strikers and Palms can play out wide.

"There's a good vibe everywhere at the moment with what's going on at the World Cup. There was a good crowd there on Monday and everyone's buzzing to get back involved after how well we did last season."

Hythe entertain Bostik Premier side Dorking Wanderers on Saturday with a 3pm kick-off at Reachfields.

Denly said "It'll be a good test because we were very close to getting ourselves into the league above last year.

"It'll be interesting to see how strong Dorking are and how far behind we are."

Hythe will host Littlehampton or Worthing United in the FA Cup preliminary round on August 25 and FC Romania in the FA Trophy preliminary round on October 13.
