Sam Denly backs his Hythe side to compete with the best

Sam Denly believes all the pressure will be on Tonbridge Angels when his Hythe Town side face them in the FA Cup on Saturday.

Hythe host the Bostik Premier side on Saturday in the first qualifying round of the competition at Reachfields.

The winners of that match will move to the next round and receive £6,000 in prize money.

Steve McKimm’s Tonbridge have started the season well and top their division having only conceded one goal in six matches.

Hythe manager Denly said: “We are looking forward to it. They are a good side and will be right up there in the Bostik Premier this season.

“On our day we can be right up there with any team in the Bostik South East or Premier.

“There’s no pressure on us and that can only help us. I expect us to be competing in games like this. They are in the league above but we are a good side ourselves.

“Anyone would like to have that start. However, we have a lot of power going forward and we are good at the back.”

Zak Ansah scored a 90th-minute winner for Hythe to give his side a 1-0 win at Haywards Heath Town in the Bostik South East on Saturday.

Ansah has now scored six league goals in four matches for the club this season.

Denly said: “We were pleased. It was by no means our best performance of the season but we were happy to get the three points.

“Zak has been outstanding this season and is a top quality striker.

“When you have someone like him up front you are always confident of being able to score.

“It was attack against defence in the first half. They packed the box and made it difficult for us to score.

“We struggled to break them down a bit in the second half. We are a good side and teams set out to stop us playing.

“It was a frustrating game. It did look like it would end up in a draw but Zak managed to get the goal with virtually the last kick of the game.”

That win put Hythe on seven points from four games leaving them seventh.

Denly added: “It should be nine points as Ashford were the only team who outplayed us. I’m not too worried about looking at the table at this point of the season. Maybe 10 or 15 games in then you can start to look.”
