Hythe Town close to agreeing a fee for defender Mitchell Dickenson

Hythe Town are close to agreeing a fee for their England C defender Mitchell Dickenson.

Dickenson has decided which club he wants to join and the move should go through shortly.

The Cannons will receive compensation because Dickenson, the former Gillingham player, is under 24.

Hythe manager Sam Denly said: "We’ve almost agreed a fee with another club.

"I’ve been speaking to them myself and agreed a fee because he’s under 24.

"There are a few clubs that are sniffing but I think they’re his chosen club and we’re just waiting for the i’s to be dotted and the t’s crossed.

"It’s looking like he’s going to be moving on and we’ll confirm which club that is once it’s all finalised.

"I’m pleased for Dicko because that’s what football’s all about. It’s about seeing players get on and test themselves and play higher.

"From what I’ve seen, there’s not many better than Dicko.

"He’s represented England C for a reason, I'm he stood out in those games and I think he could have a really good career in football.

"It’s good for him and it’s an opportunity to play for a club that look like they’re going to be competing. If he can play his part in that, he’ll have had an excellent season.

"It’s good for us as a club to have youngsters come in, do well and get recognised for that."

Hythe's squad for the new Bostik South East campaign is almost complete with Denly closing in on the signing of an experienced midfielder.

He brought in Luke Blewden from Lewes last week and believes he's made the improvements needed for a title challenge.

Denly said: "Blewden is another good addition with experience and he's played higher, which helps.

"I want a team with experience and know-how to win leagues.

"He’s energetic and can play in a number of positions. I see him as an up-front or in-the-hole man but he’s played full-back for Lewes so he’s versatile.

"You can never have enough players like that but he’s very dangerous going forward and his work-rate is something we’re going to need this year.

"That experience is massive and maybe what we lacked a little bit last year.

"I’ve got Ollie Rowe through the middle, Chris Kinnear, Frannie Collin, Blewden, a real good spine of experience with some good young lads.

"You’ll do well to find a better midfielder than Tom Carlton in this league and if I can get this other player in as well, plus Charlie Webster, it’s a real good balance with Ryan Cooper coming in as well.

"We’re looking strong and experience is going to be really important for us this year."
