Eurotunnel transports its 33 millionth truck on its Le Shuttle Freight service since its launch in 1994

Eurotunnel reached a new milestone this week when it transported its 33 millionth truck since it opened in 1994.

The company, which operates the cross-Channel route between Cheriton and Coquelles, says since its launch it has transported more than 700 million tonnes of goods.

Although disrupted by the twin challenges of Brexit and Covid, it means the service has transported, on average, more than one million trucks each year since it first opened.

Christian Dufermont, freight commercial director at Eurotunnel said: “Since 1994, we have seen a growing appetite for our service and are always looking at ways we continually improve efficiency and speed. It is incredible we have already hit a 33m milestone and we are looking forward to celebrating our next.”

The 33 millionth truck was operated by German frozen and chilled food transporter Nordfrost.

Its driver, Rene Schwarze, is certainly no stranger to the route. He has been driving for over 13 years and has used the Le Shuttle Freight service over 2,500 times.
