Clinical Denture Centre: Dover woman who lost teeth to cancer finally gets her life back

A woman from Dover who had dentures fitted after losing her teeth during cancer treatment says “I can finally smile again with confidence”.

Charlene Solway, 37, had her teeth extracted in 2018 following the gruelling treatment but her NHS-supplied dentures had been too loose and were not functioning well.

Not being able to do basic things like eat in public in fear of them falling out had impacted not only her social life but also her mental health.

That was until she visited Peter Price and his team at Clinical Denture Centre in Deal earlier this year.

.

Following a few visits where Peter immediately eased Charlene’s concerns, impressions were taken of her mouth and the perfect dentures were eventually found.

There were tears of joy for Charlene who has since gone on to properly enjoy life once again.

.

“For the first time in years I'm really looking forward to my Christmas dinner - I'll actually be able to eat it,” Charlene told KentOnline.

"Since getting my new teeth, I can't believe how much my life has changed. I can eat things I haven't been able to eat in years, I can smile without the fear of my teeth falling out. I can finally smile again with confidence.”

.

A lot of people presume incorrectly that dentures are exclusive only to elderly people but that is not necessarily the case.

Injuries, gum disease, tooth decay and other illnesses such as bulimia or acid reflux can contribute to tooth loss in younger people and many people across the UK and beyond today live with dentures.

.

But having the right kind of dentures is so important and not something that should be taken lightly.

"Peter and the team have been great”, she added.

“I’ve had to go back a few times for adjustments and it did take a few months for my mouth to adjust to the new dentures but there have been no additional costs as the adjustments are all included in the price.

“If you’re suffering from bad dentures, then I couldn’t recommend Clinical Denture Centre any more highly”.

.

Whatever the cause of the problem that has resulted in tooth loss, dentures offer a long-term solution and after an adjustment period, the patient can return to a normal life with a more attractive and confident smile.

"I am seeing more and more much younger patients coming to the surgery, many of whom have been suffering in silence with an ill fitting denture for some time”, added Peter who is a Clinical Dental Technician and the owner of Clinical Denture Centre.

.

“Dentures are still such a taboo subject for the younger generation and it's time that changed. Charlene has been such a lovely patient to work with - she's so young and the circumstances behind her tooth loss are really quite unfortunate but also not uncommon.
