Feather & Black rescued in sale to Hilding Anders

A Kent store owned by bedding retailer Feather & Black has been saved after the troubled company was sold, securing 104 jobs across the country.

Its Tunbridge Wells site is among 17 which have been bought by Swedish mattress firm Hilding Anders.

However, three stores and five concessions within Multiyork shops will close, with the loss of 19 jobs.

Founded in 2005, Feather & Black fell into adminstration in November days after the collapse of furniture retailer Multiyork, which also has a store in Tunbridge Wells.

Its new owner Hilding Anders is a self-proclaimed “consolidator” in the European bedding industry, having carried out 10 acquisitions in the last decade.

It had sales of €872 million in 2016 and employs more than 9,000 people.

Allan Graham of administrator Duff & Phelps said: “The majority of the stores have been sold to one of the best known brands in the bedroom furniture sector securing the future for Feather & Black and a large number of its valued employees. This is a tremendous result for the business.”

Pepyn Dinandt, chairman and chief executive of Hilding Anders, added: “I am very excited by this opportunity to re-enter the UK market with Feather & Black.

“Feather & Black has a strong market position, excellent customer loyalty and a deep heritage within the UK market.”
