Setting up a business can take months of research and thousands of pounds of investment.
Yet Chris Hillary defied preconceptions by creating a business with just £50 in only five days.
The entrepreneur from Dover launched Fitness Mixes last month, an online music library aimed at people who do interval training.
Mr Hillary said: “The challenge came across because last year I started a business and it cost me quite a lot of money to do.
"I decided to challenge myself with people’s help and trying to get people to believe in the concept and the idea, to try and give their time away for as little money as possible.”
Mr Hillary, 29, is also a director of Fitness Frenzi, an exercise classes club operating in the Dover area.
He decided to launch the new business just a week after coming up with the idea for it.
He is now hoping to mentor and support people in Kent who are interested in starting their own companies.
He said: “I came across quite a few people who were negative saying I was undervaluing people’s skills and it was impossible to start a business with just £50.
"I managed to find a student from Portsmouth who agreed to help me with the project and to do the website and the logo with just £14 because that’s all that was left it in the kitty.”
The majority of the cash was spent on setting up the limited company, the website domain names and a whiteboard – just for safe measure.
Mr Hillary said: ”If you believe in your idea enough you can make it happen. I’ve proven with just £50 you can start your own business.”
