Cyber-attacks are on the rise, but many of us still take the "it will never happen to me or my business" approach.
Did you know that 95% of cybersecurity breaches are caused by human error? According to the University of Maryland, hackers attack every 39 seconds, and it is thought that SMBs (small and medium-sized businesses) with 1-250 employees have the highest targeted malicious email rate at 1 in 323.
These shocking statistics emphasise the importance of cybersecurity, which is essential to protect sensitive data within computer systems, networks and infrastructures from theft and damage.
Every year, October marks Cybersecurity Awareness Month, a collaborative national effort to ensure individuals and businesses have the resources they need to be safer and more secure online.
The team at Select Technology, a Paddock Wood-based IT support and services company, are doing their part by offering a free-to-attend webinar on the subject, open to business owners, directors, managers and IT or technical managers.
They've joined forces with cybersecurity industry leaders WatchGuard to discuss how victims are targeted and what you can do to protect your business.
The online event, which is being held on 21 October at 1pm-1.30pm, will feature a candid discussion between hosts Oli Venn, Senior Cybersecurity Engineer at WatchGuard and Russell Gower-Leech, Cybersecurity Manager at Select Technology.
It will look at why and how you might be targeted by hackers and scammers; the main scams and breaches and how to spot them; and the practical solutions you can put in place to mitigate risk, including employee education, technology and processes.
