Jobs may go as bank cuts costs

MORE than 100 workers are facing unemployment after a high street bank announced one of its departments is to move.

The Lloyds TSB processing centre, in Medway Wharf Road, Tonbridge, said on Wednesday, that all group operation staff positions will be moved to centres in Gillingham, Andover, and Birmingham.

This will mean that 102 staff in the Tonbridge office will have to move into different roles within the company, or find jobs elsewhere as work is phased out during the next year.

Paul Baker, head of operations for Lloyds TSB, said: "It’s always a sad day when we have to pull out of any of our sites and this isn’t a decision we’ve taken lightly. Our priority over the next few months is to talk to all our staff individually about other opportunities.

"We have a really good track record of achieving reductions in staff numbers through natural turnover and redeployment and hope to support staff through the weeks ahead.

"When we’ve made these kind of changes previously there have been no compulsory redundancies."
