It was a busy afternoon for the airborne service as it was also put on alert when violence flared at Maidstone Crown Court, in Barker Road.

But it was stood down from this incident quickly and an injured dock officer was taken to hospital by road.

An eyewitness reported seeing the air ambulance take off around 5.25pm, adding: "It was sat outside my flat for a good 45-60 minutes."

Other people said they saw the helicopter circling and flying low over Royal Engineers Road in Maidstone.

The air ambulance spokesman said there is currently no information on why the person was flown to hospital.
