Armed police shut down Melville Road in Maidstone

A man has been taken away by police after an armed incident today.

The 57-year-old man, who hasn't been named, was arrested on suspicion of making threats to kill in what's believed to be a domestic incident.

Several police cars and armed officers surrounded a home in Melville Road, Maidstone after it was thought there were concerns for a man's welfare.

Police cordoned off the road and some were clearly seen carrying guns and wearing protective clothing.

Part of Melville Road was shut, with around five police cars seen blocking off the area.

Neighbours came out of their homes to watch as the incident developed.
