Coronavirus: Kent Police officers donate food from Tesco Express store to Maidstone Hospital

Police officers have been ensuring NHS staff fighting the coronavirus don't go hungry, and that food is not wasted.

Following an agreement between PS Neil Maudhub and staff at a Tesco Express petrol store, the shop's unwanted food was delivered to Maidstone Hospital yesterday, by officers.

Bags of surplus sandwiches and fresh bread, from the Maidstone station in Tonbridge Road, were enjoyed by A&E doctors and nurses, as well as crews from the South East Coast Ambulance Service.

Maidstone Ch Insp, Ray Quiller said: "Our strength lies in our communities coming together to help one another. Therefore, it is also fantastic when businesses show support for the tireless work from NHS staff working on the front line of the coronavirus outbreak. They were all incredibly grateful and really appreciative of this small gesture."
