A man's body was discovered near a town centre supermarket this week.
On Friday police cordoned off the route which runs along the River Len underneath Wat Tyler Way in Maidstone following calls concerning a man's welfare.
A man in his 30s was pronounced dead at the scene near Sainsbury's at Romney Place shortly after 2pm.
The death is not being treated as suspicious and the man's next of kin has been informed.
Officers were seen searching the banks of the river with flash lights and one resident reported seeing a body bag being loaded into an funeral director's estate car.
South East Coast Ambulance Service and Kent Fire and Rescue Service were also called.
The services of KFRS were not required and the ambulance left the scene shortly after.
