Confirmed swine flu cases rise to eight in Medway

The number of swine flu cases in Medway has risen to eight.

NHS Medway confirmed the latest figure this morning.

No details of the latest victim are being made available.

Anyone who has been in close contact with the sufferers have been contacted by the Health Protection Agency so they can start treatment.

The first case of the virus in Medway was confirmed on Monday, June 15, the second two on Wednesday, June 17 and the third on Wednesday, June 24. There are now 78 cases in Kent, including the Medway figure.

Dr Alison Barnett, Medway’s Director of Public Health, said: "We would like to reassure the public that symptoms in the vast majority of confirmed cases are mild. If anyone is worried, we would encourage them to call the Swine Flu information line on 0800 1513 513."
