As Remembrance Sunday services took place, Maidstone council traffic wardens were busy ticketing parked cars.
The council issued 32 parking tickets on Remembrance Sunday, several witnessed by Maidstone resident Mr Jack Reed.
He said: “With roads closed off for the service many drivers had to park wherever they could in order to attend the service.
"I was horrified to see traffic wardens putting tickets on them even though they were causing no obstruction, have the council got no shame?”
At least two Kent councils - Ashford and Medway - waived parking charges on Remembrance Sunday.
Many roads in Maidstone town centre were closed to traffic from 9.45am to 12.30pm for a parade.
The roads reopened once the precession were and affected streets were County Road, Station Road, Union Street, St Faith's Street, Earl Street, Week Street, High Street, Bank Street, Gabriels Hill, Mill Street, Lower High Street, Bridge Gyratory, St Peter's Street and Broadway.
The London Road was also closed from the junction with Buckland Hill through to Rocky Hill and Tonbridge Road was closed from the Broadway Junction to the junction off Terrace Road.
The 32 parking tickets were issued throughout the day.
Tickets for parking in the street were issued in Liphook Way, Albert Street, Earl Street, Fairmeadow, Hartnup Street, Lower Fant Road, Medway Street, Peel Street, Poppy Close and St. Philips Avenue.
Notices were also issued to vehicles in the following car parks: Brewer Street (East), Lucerne Street, Medway Street, Mill Street, Mote Road, Palace Avenue and Wheeler Street.
In response the council says all parking enforcement officers observed a two minute silence.
A spokesman said: “Parking enforcement works to ensure that parking spaces are available to our visitors and that traffic throughout Maidstone can flow freely and safely without being impeded by inconsiderate or unsafe parking.
“It is important to make sure that traffic flows properly on Remembrance Sundays and Armistice Days when people want to get to services and see parades in order to pay their respects to those who gave their lives in World Wars and other conflicts."
