Crash closes Willington Street, Maidstone

A busy Maidstone road was closed due to a collision between a car and a parked lorry.

The crash happened in Willington Street, close to shops, just after 3pm while the lorry was delivering to the Co-op.

A witness said the car came out of a side road, also part of Willington Street, and collided with the lorry, which had stopped outside the shops.

A man and a woman in the car were checked over by paramedics but were not injured, an ambulance spokesman said.

The road was closed at the junction with Spencer Way and reopened just after 5.30pm.

A police spokesman said: "Kent Police was called at 3.02pm following a collision involving a car and a parked lorry in Willington Street.

"No serious injuries have been reported but the collision caused an obstruction so the road was closed."

Kent County Council advised drivers to use an alternative route and allow extra time for their journey.
