Historic Peugeot dealership Robins and Day completes move from Len House to Park Wood

The Peugeot dealership Robins and Day has now completed a move from its traditional home in the heart of Maidstone to new purpose-built premises in Park Wood.

Its new state-of-the-art facility On Cuxton Road boasts the latest technologies in all areas of the business and an improved showroom space.

However the move has meant waving goodbye to its historic home at Len House at the bottom of Mill Street - a Grade II listed building described by many as a landmark.

Len House was built in 1938 by Howard and Souster, complete with a filling station and repair workshop for Rootes, then the biggest car manufacturing company in the country.

The new dealership aims to bring all the company's departments under one roof, improved car parking facilities and ease of access by removing the need to navigate the County Town's notoriously busy one-way system.

General manager Steve Edwards said: "The new dealership offers the same exceptional service to all of our customers but with enhanced facilities and surroundings.

"Our staff are delighted to have these new exceptional facilities, and we are excited to welcome both existing and new customers through our doors.”

Chief executive James Weston added: "The Maidstone Len House dealership is part of Robins and Day’s 100-year history, with the new site in the Parkwood Industrial Estate reflecting the future of the dealership.

“This is another great example of our development strategy in key cities and metropolitan areas.

"Maidstone has long been a successful Peugeot operation for us, and the new facilities offer an improved environment for both customers and the Robins and Day team.

"The team have done a great job maintaining the business during the development works and I’m confident of growth going forward.”

Len House meanwhile is one of five key town centre sites identified by the borough council for regeneration.

The others the local authority hopes to transform are Buzz Bingo and Granada House, which is another modernist-style building like Len House; Mote Road (the open parking area to the rear of Thrifty car rental); land west of the river from Baltic Wharf to Wicks/Asda Living, and the area around Maidstone West station including the Broadway Shopping Centre.
