A man suffered burns to his face and arms after his dog knocked a curtain onto a gas fire.
The man, in his 50s, was feeding his ducks and chickens in the garden at his home in High Street, Wouldham, on Tuesday when one of his dogs came through the back door and knocked a curtain onto a portable gas fire.
When he came back in and discovered what had happened, he tried to put the blaze out himself, burning his face, forehead and arms.
Two fire engines attended the scene at just after 7am.
Ian Simpson from Kent Fire and Rescue said: “The property didn’t have a working smoke alarm so the homeowner was only alerted to the blaze when he returned to the room and discovered the fire.
“If fire breaks out in your home, get out, stay out and call the fire service, we are professionally trained to deal with these types of incidents. Never try to tackle a blaze yourself as this incident highlights people can get seriously hurt.”
