A man has been jailed for six years after plain-clothed officers arrested him with heroin and cocaine in Maidstone.

The officers spotted a group of known drug users who appeared to be waiting in Mote Park. Acting on information, the police then went to an address in York Road where they spotted Lamarr Whyte walking towards the park.

He was arrested in connection with the supply of controlled drugs and the officers seized £180, two mobile phones and a SIM card.

One of the phones was missing its SIM card and this was found on the ground where he was stopped.

Whyte was later searched at the police station and 57 wraps of cocaine and heroin that he had concealed internally were seized.

Whyte, of no fixed address, was charged with possession of cocaine and heroin with intent to supply, and acquiring criminal property namely a quantity of cash.

He was remanded in custody and the 24-year-old subsequently pleaded guilty at Maidstone Crown Court on Wednesday.

He was sentenced at the same court today to six years in prison.

District commander, Chief Inspector Ray Quiler said: "This drug dealer travelled to Maidstone to supply drugs to some of the most vulnerable in our community.

"He had no consideration for the misery he caused to drug addicts and their families, and I am determined my officers will bring these criminals to justice as soon as they arrive in the town.

"The lengthy prison sentence sends out a clear message that Maidstone is not a safe environment for drug dealers to visit."
