'Fake cop' arrested after being seen driving around Maidstone with blue flashing lights

A man spotted driving around Maidstone in a car with blue flashing lights has been arrested on suspicion of impersonating a police officer.

The man, in his 40s and from the Gravesend area, was stopped by a police patrol on March 7 while driving a blue Ford Fiesta through West Farleigh.

A police-style high visibility jacket and a fake police warrant card were seized from the vehicle and he was arrested before later being released, pending further investigation.

District Commander for Tonbridge and Malling, Chief Inspector Peter Steenhuis, said: "Even though this man was not a police officer, his car had blue flashing lights in the grill and on the dashboard, and he possessed police-style clothing and identification.

"We would like to hear from anybody who may have been stopped by this man, particularly in the Maidstone or Medway areas, in circumstances that may have caused them to believe he was a police officer."

Anyone with information is asked to contact the appeal line on 01622 604100 quoting crime reference 46/43488/19.
