Out of control garden blaze in Bell Meadow, Maidstone spread from fire pit

Fire crews spent an hour tackling a garden blaze in Park Wood near Maidstone this morning.

Firefighters were called to Bell Meadow just before 1.30am after flames spread from a fire pit to a wooden gazebo, a neighbouring fence and a shed.

Damage was also caused to a flat roof.

Two fire engines were at the scene while crews used hose reel jets to extinguish the blaze they believe started accidentally.

Nobody was injured.

Following the incident, Kent Fire and Rescue Service is reminding people to always take care when lighting an outdoor fire, including fire pits, chimineas and barbecues.
