A popular fish and chip restaurant which was wrecked by fire has re-opened its doors.
Papa’s Barn in London Road, Ditton, has been closed for 18 months following the blaze in January last year, the cause of which has never been established.
But on Wednesday owners and brothers Michael and Theo Papa-Adams, who started the firm together in 1992, were finally able to welcome customers through the doors of their restaurant again.
The new-look building has been rebuilt on the same site where the ashes of their previous business lay 19 months ago.
It is the same size but has a more modern feel and 25 staff have been recruited.
Theo said: “It was incredible. We have been overwhelmed by the support and the trade. It went really well.”
The first day of trading proved so busy Theo Papa-Adams even found himself outside directing traffic in the car park at one point.
“After everything we have been through since last year, we are so pleased to get back to work and want everyone to know that we are here again.”
An official opening for Papa’s is expected to be held next month.
