Two fire engines rushed to Maidstone town centre this afternoon after staff in several shops smelt burning.

Shortly before 3pm Kent Fire and Rescue Service visited cosmetics retailer Lush on Jubilee Square and Perfection Bridal and Menswear, next door on Gabriel's Hill.

Crews investigated and spoke to staff but could not find anything alight.

The smell had gone by about 3.15pm and the two fire engines left the scene.
