Maidstone: Budding performer Jimmy Winch, 5, steals show by singing and dancing to One Step Beyond by Madness

A five-year-old boy from Maidstone is taking the internet by storm with a series of performances on stage as Suggs from Madness.

Jimmy Winch stole the show at Canterbury Rugby Club last weekend when he was called up on stage to perform One Step Beyond with local band The Skatonics.

The youngster, who attends Archbishop Courtenay Primary School as well as The Amelia Appleby School of Performing Arts once a week, has quickly generated something of a fanbase on social media, despite his youth.

His latest video, posted by dad Jimmy, 39, has been viewed thousands of times online, with viewers taken aback by little Jimmy's confidence and stage presence.

Mr Winch, a carpenter, who lives with Jimmy and his mum Kay at their home in Postley Road, said his son's theatrics began when he went to see the Peter Pan pantomime at Maidstone Studios last year, and ended up joining in with the singing and dancing.

"He loved it, and after that I taught him One Step Beyond so he could participate in a talent contest, which he came joint-first in," he said.

"He then went on to perform it at the Hazlitt Theatre at the end of a production called A Hard Knock Life, which he also had parts acting and singing in.

"Jimmy just loves music, and loves the whole Ska thing - he's got quite a range of tastes for his age.

"Sure, he likes Peppa Pig and things like that, but he'll also listen to the White Stripes or Queens of the Stone Age and tell me he likes it.

"It's just helping him progress into something he enjoys - if he was to maybe get into a band one day that would be nice, if he wants to, and we will help him if we can."
