Maidstone Council, Kent County Council and Network Rail will carry out maintenance work on High Level Bridge which will see it closed for one week.

The footpath on the bridge above Fairmeadow will be closed for seven days next month.

Maidstone Council has confirmed that maintenance work, including resurfacing the path, will begin on Monday, April 7.

This will run through until and Sunday, April 13.

Network Rail, Kent and Maidstone councils have placed signs on the bridge giving advance warning.

The footpath which runs between Station Road and Buckland Hill - the Maidstone East and Barracks railway stations and is a popular route for schoolchildren and commuters.

Improvements to the bridge started in January and should be complete by the end of May.

The footpath closure has been planned for the school holiday to minimise disruption but a diversion will involve a long walk to one of the town’s other bridges.
