A four car pile-up closed part of Sutton Road in Maidstone this morning.

Both lanes of the road were closed by the junction at Wallace Avenue after a crash involving a VW Polo, VW van, Smart car and Mercedes van.

It happened just after 10.30am.

Police and ambulance crews raced to the scene, and the road was closed until around 12 noon, causing traffic jams to build up.

One casualty was rescued from the Smart car and treated by ambulance crews.

The man, aged in his mid 20s, was treated for neck and shoulder pain at the scene.
