Is it a bird? Is it a plane? No, it’s a 7ft Giant Knitted Super Man

and soon he will be taking to the streets near you.

This huge creation started life
when Jamie West – a pupil at Maplesden Noakes School, Maidstone –
teased his gran Janet Hughes about her constant knitting.

Several months later the
Hollingbourne supreme knitter, known as Nanny Jan, had created
Giant Knitted Super Man (GKSM).

Now Jamie, 15, and his mum Shelley
West have vowed to do their bit by taking GKSM on a charity walk to
raise funds for Five Acre Wood School, Maidstone, where Jamie’s
brother Owen, six, is a pupil.

GKSM is also gathering fans
worldwide thanks to his Facebook page. He has more than 160 fans,
including one from Australia. He’s also a regular on Twitter.

Twenty people will be accompanying
him on his charity walk, which takes place on Saturday, December
12.

It starts in Hollingbourne at 10am
and finishes in Maidstone town centre, with a half way stop at noon
at The Rose pub in Bearsted, where there will be soup and bread for
the walkers.

If you would like to support GKSM you can email Shelley at shelley.west@hotmail.co.uk
