Fire crews called to kitchen fire in John Street Maidstone

Firefighters tackled a blaze in the kitchen of a flat in Maidstone last night.

Three fire engines were sent to the ground floor property, in John Street, just after 7pm.

Crews needed breathing apparatus to enter flat and used a hose reel to put out the fire.

A Kent Fire and Rescue spokesman confirmed no one was in the property at the time.

Crews used positive pressure ventilation fans to clear heavy smoke logging from the flat and remained at the scene until just after 10.30pm.

No details were available about the cause of the blaze.
