Fire on M20 near Maidstone closes London-bound lanes

Two London-bound lanes of the M20 were sealed off after a trailer caught fire.

Officers from Highways England were called to the scene between Junctions 7 and 8 in Detling, Maidstone, at about 9am today.

The closure was put in place as fire crews attempted to extinguish the blaze.

A spokesman for Highways England tweeted: "There is a lane 1 and 2 closure due to a trailer fire. Closures in place.

"@kentfirerescue are at the scene. Please approach with caution."

The lanes were reopened just before 10.30am after the vehicle was recovered.
