Initially one lane was shut off with motorists affected just after 1pm.

Highways England then put in place a closure of the London-bound M20 from Junction 7 (Maidstone/Sittingbourne) to Junction 5 (Aylesford).

The motorway has since fully reopened, police have confirmed.

Some motorists reported being at a standstill for nearly half-an-hour and seeing an ambulance, an unmarked police car and Highways England vehicle rushing to the scene.

A police spokesman added: "A man reported minor injuries and was taken to a local hospital.

"The carriageway was closed while the vehicles were recovered and has now reopened. "Highways officers remain at the scene where repairs to the central reservation are required."
