Maidstone United have signed midfielder Sam Bewick on a dual registration from neighbours Tonbridge.

The 18-year-old from Medway, pictured, who was released by QPR at the end of last season, has been training at Longmead but played against the Angels for Maidstone during their 2-1 friendly win last Saturday.

Bewick was involved in the build-up for Alex Waugh’s second, after Shaun Welford had given the Stones an early lead.

Maidstone boss Jay Saunders said: "Tommy Warrilow (Tonbridge manager) put me in touch with him and he did well. I spoke to him on Wednesday and he has agreed to come. He is the box-to-box player I was looking for."

Goalkeeper Kelvin Jack made a surprise appearance for the Stones at Longmead. The 35-year-old former Trinidad and Tobago international, who also played for Gillingham, is looking for a new club and Saunders agreed to give him a game with Charlie Mitten unavailable.

Jack will play again in the final friendly at Hornchurch on Saturday as No.2 Tim Roberts has moved on after failing to agree terms.

Alex Flisher, James Pinnock and James Humphries will all miss the trip. Flisher and Humphries are nursing foot problems, while Pinnock has an ankle injury.
