Man refused bail after 'rape' near The Source Bar, Maidstone

A tourist accused of raping a woman near a Maidstone night club has been refused bail.

Pedro Henrique De Soya-Freire is alleged to have committed the offence in an alleyway near The Source Bar, in Rose Yard, on October 11.

The 29-year-old Brazilian was on holiday at the time the offence is alleged to have taken place.

He was not required to appear at Maidstone Crown Court on Monday, November 16, for the bail application.

Ian Dear, defending, said De Soya-Freire had a aunt living locally who was willing to put up a £2,000 surety - but Judge Philip Statman refused bail.

De Soya-Freire will enter a plea to the charge on January 14.

A trial date was set for March 7.
