Glebs Mackevics of Maidstone charged in connection with reports of gun on train at Tonbridge station

Officers investigating reports that a person boarded a packed rush-hour train with a gun have arrested and charged a man.

Police were called to Tonbridge station at about 5.30pm on Thursday.

Armed officers stormed the Southeastern train when it reached Ashford half an hour later but did not find the suspect.

On Saturday, 24-year-old Glebs Mackevics was arrested at his Maidstone home. He was charged with one count of theft and one count of possessing an imitation firearm.

Mackevics, of Kingsley Road, Maidstone, appeared at Medway Magistrates' Court yesterday and has been bailed to appear at Maidstone Crown Court on Tuesday, May 3.

He was also questioned in relation to an incident in Tonbridge High Street in which a number of DVDs were stolen.
