Man injured after town centre accident

The Kent Air Ambulance has landed in
the middle of Maidstone town centre after a man was injured in an
accident.

The 62-year-old is being treated for
life threatening injuries after a collision with a car in
central Maidstone.

Main roads have been closed in the
town after the accident on Broadway.

It happened just after noon outside
Lidl's at the Broadway shopping centre where the man sustained
injuries to his head, arms and legs.

Kent Air Ambulance was
called and police closed the bridge while it landed next to St
Peter's Street. Paramedics jumped from the helicopter and
rushed to the man's aid.

The air ambulance then circled for several minutes before
leaving the scene. The man has been taken to Maidstone Hospital by
land ambulance.

A large crowd had gathered at the scene and
traffic was congested but the roads have now reopened.
