Man arrested on suspicion of rape in Brenchley Gardens, Maidstone, released

A man arrested on suspicion of rape has been released.

The 24-year-old Tonbridge resident was detained on Friday after a teenager was reportedly raped in a park.

The incident happened in Brenchley Gardens, Maidstone, between 2am and 3.10am last Sunday.

The victim, who is in her late teens, was walking through the park with a man when he is said to have attacked her.

They were not known to each other but had spoken during the evening at a bar in Week Street, Maidstone.

This morning, a police spokesman said: "The arrested man has been released from custody but remains under investigation.

"Anyone with information concerning the incident is urged to call Kent Police on 01622 604 100, quoting crime reference 46/215787/19.

"Alternatively contact the independent charity Crimestoppers anonymously by calling 0800 555111 or completing the online form at www.crimestoppers-uk.org."
