Man rescued from car after crash between Junction 7 and 8 of the M20

A driver has been taken to hospital after being rescued from a car by firefighters following a crash with a lorry on the M20, near Maidstone.

Three fire engines were called to the collision which happened between Junction 7 at Detling and Junction 8 at Hollingbourne this morning.

A police spokesman said: "Kent Police was called at around 7.40am to a collision involving a lorry and a car on the coastbound carriageway of the M20 between junctions 7 and 8.

"Officers, South East Coast Ambulance Service and Kent Fire and Rescue Service attended the scene where the driver of the car received medical attention.

"He has been taken to hospital for treatment for injuries that are not described as life threatening. The carriageway was closed while emergency services dealt with the incident and reopened at around 9.40am.

A spokesman for the Kent Fire and Rescue Service said: "Three fire engines were sent to the scene, and crews used hydraulic cutters and spreaders to remove the roof of a car and release one person from the vehicle.

"The casualty was then passed into the care of South East Coast Ambulance paramedics."
