Lorraine Summers’ family has been struck by dementia not once but three times.
The 58-year-old’s father and grandfather both had the disease and now, tragically, her mother, Maureen, who cared for her husband, also has it.
Such has been the effect on her family, she was more than happy to pull on a pair of walking shoes to launch an event which will raise awareness of the condition.
The Memory Walk, at 10am on Sunday, September 30, at Leeds Castle is the Alzheimer’s Society’s flagship fundraising event and all funds raised go towards helping support people with dementia and their carers, like Lorraine.
She said: “My family has been affected by dementia many times so I know the devastating effect it can have on the person who has it as well as their loved ones and friends. Dementia touches so many of us in one way or another, that’s why I’m so pleased to be launching the walk.”
The event, in partnership with Bupa Care Homes, this year includes an extra mile for Bupa.
