Maidstone mum Pam Roberts raises £1,600 for brain surgery to fix rare hearing condition

A mum-of-two tormented by the sound of her own eyeballs moving in her head has raised almost £2,000 for life-changing brain surgery.

Pam Roberts was diagnosed with superior semi-circular canal dehiscence syndrome after symptoms started to show in 2015.

The 49-year-old, from Maidstone, had unsuccessful surgery and can now hear her own body digesting food.

Pam's partner Martyn Smith launched a fundraising effort for her to travel to Louisiana in America for specialist surgery.

The tests would cost £5,500 and the couple have already raised £1,600.

Pam said: "I have a hole basically in my superior canal. The symptoms started in 2015 and they gradually got worse until I could hear my heart.

"I thought it was just because I was tired or because I had been on the computer too long.

"I was always out of balance and really dizzy."

Pam is hopeful there is light at the end of the tunnel following a frustrating three years which has forced her to shelve any marriage plans.

She said: "The place I am going to is in Louisiana and there will be two days of tests. It will be really thorough.

"The doctor is an expert in SSCD and he has done more surgeries in the world than anyone else. I am confident he can fix this."
