Oak Trees primary has plans to improve

Classroom behaviour is being targeted to improve children’s literacy and numeracy at an under-performing school.

Oas Trees Community School was ranked at the bottom of the government’s latest primary school league tables, after every pupil failed to meet the minimum standards of English and maths in last year’s SATS.

The school now has a new head teacher and governing body, who say that they are already taking steps to improve matters.

Head teacher Anne Tammas-Williams, who joined the school in September, said: “These standards applied to one year group, year six, who are now at secondary school.

“The first thing I did was to look at the learning environment and the curriculum and we have tried to make it a much more conducive environment and arrange activities to engage the children. We have had staff development and a focus on learning plans for some children to bring them on.
