The old Post Office in King Street, Maidstone, could become a hub to help as many as 2,000 businesses get a foot on the ladder.

An innovation centre could be set up in the former Post Office building could provide advice for anyone with a nugget of a business idea but needs guidance to take it further.

The idea is currently in its very early stages but officers at Maidstone council have been looking into the idea for the past 12 weeks.

The Post Office building has been disused for several years since Royal Mail relocated to Bank Street, and last year a restaurant chain applied for a change of use to turn it into a restaurant.

A council spokesman said: “The centre would offer desk space and flexible offices alongside business seminars and meeting room hire.
