Emergency repair works on an underground power cable are causing delays in Upper Stone Street, Maidstone, this morning.

One lane is closed at the junction with Waterloo Street after part of the road had to be dug up so engineers from UK Power Networks could repair the damaged electricity cable.

They attended the site yesterday after 15 homes and businesses on the road experienced an interruption to their power supplies just after 3pm.

Power was restored shortly after 2am this morning.

A spokesman from UK Power Networks said: “Engineers worked as quickly and as safely as possible, through the night and into the early hours.

We appreciate how difficult it can be to lose power and would like to apologise for the inconvenience caused by this incident.”
