A woman sustained serious injuries after being hit by a car in Maidstone.

The 53-year-old is in a stable condition in London's King's College Hospital this morning following the accident which happened just after 7pm yesterday on Royal Engineers Road.

A black Audi hit the pedestrian who suffered head and pelvic injuries, with police alerted at 7.15pm.

The route was sealed off as police and paramedics worked at the scene, before being re-opened at 8.30pm.

The air ambulance was alerted but was stood down en route.

No one was arrested.
