Plan to shut university college

Maidstone could lose its university college after plans to shut it were unveiled.

The University College for the Creative Arts is considering moving out of Oakwood Park, in Tonbridge Road, Maidstone.

It forms part of an ambitious bid for a new £75 million campus somewhere in Kent. Plans are at an early stage and a site has yet to be selected.

Maidstone council is keen for the campus, which could house up to 9,000 students, to be built in the County Town and has been holding meetings with the university about its proposals.

A spokesman for the university said sites in the Thames Gateway and Medway were also being considered.
