Big Ben's Fish & Grill relaunches as Lewis' Fish & Grill in Loose Road, Maidstone

A popular Maidstone chippy has reopened under a new name and with a new focus on environmentally-friendly business.

Brothers Gavin and Craig Lewis bought Big Ben's Fish & Grill on Loose Road six months ago, and opened the rebranded shop, Lewis’ Fish & Grill, to diners this week.

Between them, the pair have more than 30 years of experience in the industry and have won a host of awards for their fish and chips.

They have even been to Norway and the Faroe Islands to represent the trade.

Gavin said: "Big Ben's has always had a good reputation in Maidstone, but we hope to make it even better.

"The main change is about sustainability - all the fish are sustainably-caught which is a lot more labour-intensive, but really important in terms of preparing for the future.

"We're also really trying our best to go plastic-free, which is a work in progress because the industry has been so typically reliant on polystyrene, but we're keen to use recycled material wherever we can.

"We also love to use some of Kent's finest produce, such as Korker sausages and home-baked Kentish Mayde pies, while our burgers are fresh and made by a local butcher in Maidstone."
